Our Mission Statement

To save the splendour of the Yorkshire Dales and The North Pennines landscape of national character from inappropriate industrialisation by preventing the development of a wind farm with 23 x 200m high turbines. This ecological haven, set in a beautifully wild, bio-diverse natural corridor contains peat land full of historical heritage and must remain intact for future generations.


We strongly oppose the proposal and plan to develop 23 x 200 meter (656 foot) high wind turbines, with all the associated industrial scale infrastructure by the developer Fred. Olsen Renewables on Barningham & Holgate & East Arkengathdale Estates (owned by the Milbank and Torstenson families). The site borders Arkengarthdale, The Yorkshire Dales National Park & The North Pennines National Landscape- a UNESCO Global Geopark . We aim to save the destruction of a national landscape, a restored peat land, an ecological haven and a wild biodiverse corridor which is home to 24 Red listed birds as well as important sites of pre-historic rock carvings. 

Where are we now?

We are now coming into the next phase of the pre-application process; some people may think the campaign finishes when the first phase consultation closes, however, this is only the first chapter.  


We have just received the Planning Inspectorate’s response to Fred Olsens submitted scoping report.  We have issued a press release responding to the initial Scoping Report  Controversial windfarm plans slammed by government officials.  Commenting our spokesperson Suzy Wilson “The Planning Inspectorate has criticised the developer throughout this document and has required a clearer and more comprehensive assessment of numerous issues – from wildlife to heritage to flood risk to peatland. It is quite extraordinary that Fred Olsen Renewables don’t seem to care at all about permanent loss of deep peat, particularly given all the money spent by Yorkshire Peat Partnership and others on restoring this peatland. What was the point? “This marks the beginning of the next stage of the process — not the end — and we remain committed to ensuring that every environmental impact is properly assessed before any decisions are made.”


Over the coming months, the consultation responses will be reviewed, environmental work and assessments will continue. There will also be further opportunities for public engagement, only then, once all has been considered, will the developer be in a position to submit their application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate.


Meanwhile, our role is to gather as much independent evidence from all areas potentially affected by this development and continue asking constructive questions and sharing reliable information throughout every stage of the process. Our aim is to stop this development in its tracks, to save our precious landscape, allow the wildlife to thrive and the moorland to be saved for generations to come.  Be under no illusion, the moorland as we know it is under threat and we, with your help, will do everything we can to stop it.
